Maruti suzuki Ignis - A premium car from Maruti???
I bought my ignis in April and its been almost 3 months have cranked up a few Km to review my car which is sort of priced premium but is is it worth the price? Let's check it out.Specifications

Design :
This car is designed for the "MILLENIALS" or atleast that's what maruti wants us to believe anyways this is a car which either you love it or hate it and there's nothing in between and I just bought it for the former. Its a young and quirky design which some may find it weird. On the outside the Ignis is well proportioned, and extremely distinct. There is simply no other car on the market that looks remotely like the Ignis does! It's quirky, and slightly weird - and I like that! The front grille with its integrated headlamp clusters is well finished, and forms the signature of the face, and indeed the overall design. The metal sculpting on the sides is modern and emphasizes the car's upright stance. This is further enhanced by the clamshell-style raised hood. The C-pillar is very sharply angled - and the tailgate turns down sharply to a straight slab of metal to give you a very distinct look and shape at the back. The taillights are too flat and 2-dimensional and is the only sore point in what's otherwise a very well executed design.
Price :
I bought mine for 6.5 lakh on road Bangalore for Petrol Delta variant
Engine | Alpha | Zeta | Zeta Automatic | Delta | Delta Automatic | Sigma |
Petrol | 6.69 | 5.75 | 6.30 | 5.19 | 5.74 | 4.59 |
Diesel | 7.80 | 6.91 | 7.46 | 6.39 | 6.94 |
* All prices are in Lakhs and is ex-showroom Delhi
Performance and handling :
Both the 1.2 L petrol and 1.3 L diesel engines have been known for their decent performance and it continues with the Ignis as well. The petrol variant is zippy considering the less weight of the car, but the steering system does not inspire confidence at higher speed. The cabin in fairly silent and insulated, I often found myself guessing whether the engine was on. The handling is quite elegant due to smaller turn radius and well proportioned dimensions.Mileage :
Maruti Ignis mileage figures range at 20.89 kmpl in the petrol version and 26.80 kmpl in the diesel version (all figures ARAI certified).Realistically I am getting a mileage of 14-16 when I crawl around within city and 19-20 when I hit the highway
Interior :
The Maruti Ignis interior is finished in dual-tone Black and Ivory shades. The illuminated instrument cluster with carbon fibre texture on louvers and speedometer is delightful. The infotainment system gets smartphone connectivity experience with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Mirror Link - a first-in-segment feature on the top end Alpha. You get a mediocre player on the delta and zeta, I changed mine to Sony XAV AX 100, which I got it at a decent price of 26K. The headroom and leg room for the front and rear occupants is praiseworthy. The boot capacity at 265 litre is also acceptable and it can be extended with 60:40 rear split. The cockpit-styled AC Panel, AC switches and EDM-inspired illumination in the speedometer are a few fresh things that Ignis offers.Safety:
It is one aspect where Maruti has truly excelled. Maruti Ignis specifications include dual front airbags, seatbelts with pre-tensioner and force limiter (PTFL), and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) as standard fitments. In addition, ISOFIX Anchorage - a child seat restraint system - is also offered as a standard feature with the entire Ignis variant lineup.Verdict :
Maruti Ignis, with its emphasis on safety, sufficiently good ride quality and slightly premium pricing, won't disappoint most buyers. It is an excellent product developed for city driving, pre-dominantly.
